Embracing Flexibility and Thriving in a Shifting Design Landscape

In the second episode of our 'UX Conversations', Oliver Kulpi (Head of Experience, Valtech Germany) shares his experiences from an extensive career characterized by a hands-on approach in a variety of creative domains. Drawing on his multidisciplinary background, he talks about building awareness and having a flexible mindset in a profession marked by constantly developing technologies and shifting customer demands.

According to Oliver, the most inspiring leaders in his career were those who "disappeared" after a period of time. Giving his team members the freedom to experiment, fail, and bounce back is a philosophy that he's maintained ever since. In our conversation Oliver also reflects on what customer experience means, and on the importance of ethics when designing solutions that offer a meaningful purpose.

Oliver Kulpi is a seasoned strategy executive with a track record in large-scale digital transformation programs for mobility, manufacturing, luxury and healthcare. He leads the Experience Design team at Valtech and is passionate about the intersection of technology and human-centered design, which he experimented with back in the 1990s when graduating at HdM Stuttgart. Today, Oliver fosters digitization in established industries and helps to transform business models through design thinking, with accessibility being one of his focus areas. Oliver is also a member of the jury for the UX Design Awards – Autumn 2023.
