Three questions for the project team

What was the particular challenge of the project from a UX point of view?
The main challenge for the D21x series was balancing customizability with user-friendliness. Our 3D configurator (configurator.doorbird.com) allows the visual design of door intercoms with a real-time display of selected modules, colors, and materials. Integrating this tool seamlessly was crucial.

We also focused on creating consistent experiences across physical and digital interfaces, developing an adaptable mobile app that maintains usability across configurations.

Lastly, we catered to diverse users with varying technical skills, balancing advanced security features with accessibility for a user-friendly yet secure system.

What was your personal highlight in the development process? Was there an aha!-moment, was there a low point?
Our standout highlight was perfecting the biometric access control feature. The aha!-moment came when we optimized the fingerprint recognition algorithm to maintain accuracy across various environmental conditions.

Where do you see yourself and the project in the next five years?
In five years, we see the D21x series as THE individual intercom system - with even more modules, especially in the biometric field. Our aim is to make these advanced features as user-friendly as possible. This means working not only on the precision and reliability of the technologies, but also on their integration into everyday devices and applications. Users should be able to seamlessly improve their safety and comfort without having to go through complicated or lengthy procedures.
Sustainability is also an important issue. We are constantly working to develop, produce and distribute our products in the most environmentally friendly way possible. Over the next five years, we will halve Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions in our operations.
