Three questions for the project team
What was the particular challenge of the project from a UX point of view?
The primary UX challenge was balancing simplicity and functionality to cater to both experienced users and new users. Ensuring the interface was intuitive for older thrift store customers while offering advanced features for younger, more digital-savvy users required extensive user testing and iteration. Additionally, integrating in-store resources on sustainability without overwhelming the user experience posed a significant challenge. We aimed to make the platform engaging and informative without compromising usability or overwhelming users with too much information.
What was your personal highlight in the development process? Was there an aha!-moment, was there a low point?
A personal highlight was the first successful user testing session where users effortlessly navigated the platform, confirming our design choices. An aha!-moment came when we integrated the Exchange Story Booklet as a tangible product for users. Users engaging with the stories behind items creates a personal and connected experience, validating the importance of storytelling in enhancing user engagement. A low point was after the first user testing phase, the Exchange Board used only one screen for both users to interact with. Users did not behave as predicted and were confused. By reevaluating the key aspects of the needs of the users and the design and viewing it from a fresh approach, I was able to overcome these challenges.
Where do you see yourself and the project in the next five years?
In the next five years, I envision Let's Exchange to become an alternate platform for a sustainable trading system for second-hand apparel, with a robust user base and strong partnerships with thrift stores globally. Aim to expand our features, incorporating AI for personalized recommendations and blockchain for secure exchanges. Personally, I see myself continuing to drive innovation in sustainable tech solutions, potentially expanding Let's Exchange into new markets and related sectors. Our goal is to create a significant and positive impact on reducing waste and promoting a circular economy.
