Three questions for the project team
What was the particular challenge of the project from a UX point of view?
Loyalty points that reward customers for purchases at their favorite stores are a common sight across the world. Traditionally, these points are collected on paper cards, so the primary challenge of this project was to accurately translate the tangible experience of physical bonus cards into the digital realm. Retaining the enjoyable aspects of physical coupons (small cards that show the customer's point progress at one glance) while improving upon their drawbacks (easy to forget, inconvenient in hectic checkout situations) quickly became the foundation of the Loyal app.
What was your personal highlight in the development process? Was there an aha!-moment, was there a low point?
The most intriguing aspect of this project was the opportunity to conduct a full-fledged UX design process for a freshly founded start-up right from its inception. As a result, our design approach not only focused on creating a compelling app experience but also establishing a unique brand identity to go along with it. The outcome is a design that harmonizes interactive qualities with an engaging visual language to deliver a cohesive app experience to its users.
Where do you see yourself and the project in the next five years?
Ever since its pilot launch with just a few restaurants in the north of Germany, Loyal has experienced rapid growth. Now boasting over 600 partner stores, it is expected that Loyal will increase its reach even further over the coming years to meet customer demand for a smarter digital solution over traditional paper bonus cards. As the designer of this project, the goal will be to replicate this success and assist other start-ups in implementing a similar UX-focused approach to create innovative, human-centered experiences in the future.
