Three questions for the project team
What was the particular challenge of the project from a UX point of view?
One of the primary challenges was ensuring that the AI-driven features of Sundial were seamlessly integrated into the user experience. The generative AI capabilities needed to feel intuitive and beneficial rather than intrusive or overwhelming. This required a deep understanding of the user journey and the various touchpoints where AI could enhance the experience. For instance, Sundial's AI needed to provide personalized health recommendations without appearing to dictate or judge the user’s lifestyle choices. Striking this balance was crucial in making the AI appear as a supportive tool rather than a controlling entity.
What was your personal highlight in the development process? Was there an aha!-moment, was there a low point?
The health application market is highly competitive, with numerous mature products focused on diet and fitness. During our market research, our team faced considerable pressure and even questioned whether an app was the right solution for this project. Fortunately, through primary research on user experience, we had an 'ah-ha' moment that provided unique insights.
Maintaining health demands significant self-discipline, and users crave positive feedback and encouragement throughout this journey. When they fail to meet their goals, they need understanding and comfort rather than criticism and warnings. Most existing health apps overlook users' lifestyles and emotional needs. Based on this insight, we developed our unique value proposition.
Where do you see yourself and the project in the next five years?
As AI technology continues to evolve, Sundial will likely see significant enhancements in its AI-driven features. The generative AI at the core of Sundial will become more sophisticated, offering even more personalized and accurate health recommendations. This will be facilitated by advancements in machine learning algorithms and increased data availability, allowing the AI to better understand and predict user needs and preferences. Over the next five years, Sundial is poised to expand its market reach. Initially targeting individuals with sub-optimal health, the project can broaden its scope to include a wider audience, such as those interested in preventive health measures and general wellness enthusiasts.
