Three questions to the project team
What was the particular challenge of the project from a UX point of view?
The project presented several challenges. A key one was addressing the diverse contexts in which the application and cameras are used, requiring concepts that support both simple and complex setups. Developing the application from scratch, we encountered unforeseen hardware and SDK constraints, creating challenges for both designers and developers. This necessitated continuous adjustments to concepts and interactions during development. Close collaboration between design, development, and product management was crucial to refining and enhancing the application’s user experience throughout the process.
What was your personal highlight in the development process? Was there an aha!-moment, was there a low point?
My highlight was driving this user-centric project from strategy through design (interaction, visual, and icon design) to the final product. Involving users, exploring their contexts, and translating their needs into meaningful requirements is always exciting and essential to creating value, especially in complex domains. Seeing the product come to life—from the first live image from a connected camera to testing all keyboard shortcuts and functionalities in a final review—made me feel immensely proud of our achievements. This project reinforced the importance of involving real users and fostering close collaboration between design and development, where a shared passion for the product is key to UX success.
Where do you see yourself and the project in the next five years?
In five years, I envision PCC having evolved with advanced features like measurement and data acquisition. Its new-generation capabilities will likely unlock opportunities users haven’t even imagined yet. By maintaining a user-centric product development approach, the product can deliver innovations beyond today’s foresight, addressing emerging needs and continuing to provide exceptional value.
