Three questions to the project team
What was the particular challenge of the project from a UX point of view?
Context-wise, Hager Charge was the first project where we deployed our new design system, Grid, which was still under construction. This required agility and some risk-taking. Furthermore, while mainly intended for electric vehicle owners, the application also needs to cater to installers for product setup.
Ambition-wise, we set three challenges for ourselves:
1 - Make electricity tangible and understandable with a metaphor that reflects the physical reality.
2 - Link the digital to the physical beyond just showing a picture of the EVCS in the app.
3 - Opt for a relationship-centric approach instead of a data-centric one by creating a relatable entity in the app that displays the different charging states
What was your personal highlight in the development process? Was there an aha!-moment, was there a low point?
We are proud of the result we have achieved despite the organizational context, including shifting company priorities and staffing. This project truly is a result of intense teamwork, with 7 designers having contributed to different stages and aspects of the project.
Where do you see yourself and the project in the next five years?
We hope to see the Interaction Design team at Hager Design Studio grow in the future in order to go into even more depth and detail when designing. For the project, we hope that the Hager Charge app will continue to improve and evolve with more valuable features and delightful aspects making our existing customers happier and attracting new customers.
