Three questions to the project team

What was the particular challenge of the project from a UX point of view?
It was designing a deeply personal yet accessible platform that supported the highly individual nature of grief while accommodating diverse user needs. We aimed to balance emotional depth with usability, ensuring features like 3D customization and interactive memorial spaces were intuitive and meaningful. Extensive user research with individuals navigating loss guided the design of calming visual aesthetics, seamless navigation, and empathetic interactions. This iterative process allowed us to refine the experience, creating a platform that felt both emotionally supportive and technologically empowering. By prioritizing user feedback, we created an environment that respects memory and helps users process grief at their own pace.

What was your personal highlight in the development process? Was there an aha!-moment, was there a low point?
The aha moment came when we recognized the profound potential of a digital platform to preserve warm, meaningful memories for users. This breakthrough arose from the idea of harnessing generative AI to enable unparalleled customization, empowering users to recreate cherished environments deeply connected to their personal experiences. By integrating diverse media types—such as photos, audio, videos, and 3D-scanned objects—we envisioned a platform capable of crafting deeply personal and immersive memorial spaces. This realization redefined the project’s potential, showcasing how technology can foster a supportive and emotionally resonant experience for individuals navigating grief.

Where do you see yourself and the project in the next five years?
In five years, we foresee Memory Land becoming a globally recognized platform for grief support and emotional healing, reaching diverse audiences across cultural boundaries. The project will continue to evolve, incorporating advanced AI techniques such as intuitive generative tools and rich multimedia capabilities to provide a more personalized and immersive memorial experience. Furthermore, Memory Land will introduce collaborative spaces where families and communities can share and preserve collective memories. Partnering with mental health professionals and cultural experts, our team will ensure the platform remains impactful, inclusive, and sustainable, fostering meaningful connections and emotional resilience for users worldwide.
