Three questions to the project team

What was the particular challenge of the project from a UX point of view?
We weren’t just designing screens—we were orchestrating how the AI should behave. The challenge was defining not just what the user sees, but how the system thinks. We worked in close collaboration with the tech team to shape prompt logic for a wide range of scenarios, then evaluated LLM outputs to ensure responses felt helpful, natural and on-brand. Every interaction had to balance technical accuracy with emotional nuance, and every flow had to account for real-time context. It pushed UX beyond wireframes into something more systemic and behavioural.

What was your personal highlight in the development process? Was there an aha!-moment, was there a low point?
One of the most powerful moments was seeing the genuine emotional reaction when users received a personalised response to their question within seconds. The value of Beauty Genius clicked instantly. But with that came the lows—seeing the LLM forget the original ask or go off-topic in longer conversations. It would technically answer the query, but not always clearly or directly. The biggest highs and lows often came from the same place: watching people interact with the system in nuanced, personal ways and realising how hard it is to design for ambiguity, but also how rewarding it is when we get it right.

Where do you see yourself and the project in the next five years?
Beauty Genius has the potential to become the go-to destination for personalised beauty advice—trusted, brand agnostic and truly multimodal. I see it evolving into a native app that lives on the user’s device, always accessible and ready to support them in the way that suits them best, whether that’s through chat, voice, image or live video. That shift would open up richer interactions and more inclusive design. Personally, we want to keep pushing how UX and AI come together to create intelligent systems that feel human, useful and trustworthy.
