Three questions to the project team

What was the particular challenge of the project from a UX point of view?
From a UX perspective, the key challenge was presenting complex energy data clearly on a new screen-based home energy device. The initial detailed UI, while visually refined, confused users and hindered understanding. Balancing aesthetics with simplicity required multiple iterations and user feedback. As the team’s first screen-equipped product, designing intuitive interactions without prior models was tough. Ensuring real-time monitoring and alerts were clear but not overwhelming was crucial for building trust. Simplifying the interface helped users easily grasp energy status and system performance, showing how good design guides and empowers users.

What was your personal highlight in the development process? Was there an aha!-moment, was there a low point?
This was our first time designing a home energy management device with a screen. Presenting complex energy data in a clear, user-friendly way was a major challenge. During the first few months, I experienced many iterations. One turning point came when we realized that our initial, visually rich UI actually confused users during early testing. It taught me that design must first serve understanding. We quickly simplified the style, striking a better balance between clarity and aesthetics. Seeing users effortlessly interact with the improved interface was a joyful moment for our team. This experience reinforced my belief that great design guides and empowers.

Where do you see yourself and the project in the next five years?
In the next five years, home energy management will become more intelligent and user-centric. Battery storage with embedded screens will transform system data into clear, actionable insights. Users will monitor status, analyze performance, and receive alerts in real time. Our project will evolve with adaptive UIs, deeper integration with smart homes, and AI-driven optimization. Personally, I will focus on creating seamless multi-device experiences and intuitive visualizations, making smart energy management an empowering part of everyday life.
