Three questions to the project team
What was the particular challenge of the project from a UX point of view?
One of the challenges was that each facility operated differently, with its own resources, team structure, and communication methods. I was focused on improving one part, but I needed to ensure that my changes wouldn’t create additional work or friction elsewhere in the system. Additionally, the solution had to be technically feasible and seamlessly integrate into the busy, time-pressured workflows of both nurses and doctors.
I met a lot of people from user research, and these conversations helped me understand their work styles. The insights shaped a solution that didn’t reinvent their workflow but instead fit into it.
What was your personal highlight in the development process? Was there an aha!-moment, was there a low point?
Designing with regulations and constraints was tough. I often found myself hitting walls, especially during ideation. My aha! moment came during field research. I watched nurses write down things they had to report on scraps of paper while caring for patients. Also, through interviews, I realized how much of the communication was informally mediated by the nurse manager. That’s when I saw the gap clearly: they already had a system, invisible but functional.
Where do you see yourself and the project in the next five years?
In the next five years, I plan to continue developing and improving this service. I would like to start by piloting it in outpatient dialysis centers or nursing homes. Once the pilot is validated, I aim to expand its use to broader scenarios, such as facilitating communication among primary care providers and the entire healthcare team. Along with enhancing its functionality, I want to improve its branding and positioning so that it's seen not just as a tool, but as a communication layer that promotes trust, accountability, and care among the team.
