Three questions to the project team
What was the particular challenge of the project from a UX point of view?
At the heart of the UX challenge was a simple, powerful truth: “Career growth is deeply personal” - leading us to reimagine a traditionally top-down, HR-led process into a seamless, intuitive, employee-first experience. Our research also uncovered a subtle skepticism: users questioned if AI could truly ‘understand’ them, feared misalignment between algorithmic suggestions and personal goals, and preferred human connection over digital direction. This made it essential to design a platform that felt safe, human, and empowering—not prescriptive. The growth journey had to be anchored in clarity, not overwhelm, delivering insights that inspire action, build trust, and drive inclusive, continuous development at scale.
What was your personal highlight in the development process? Was there an aha!-moment, was there a low point?
A low point came early on, when feature sprawl and generic AI suggestions threatened to overwhelm users instead of guiding them. The turning point came through deeper research to realised that career progressions today aren’t strictly vertical—they’re multidirectional, more like a lattice than a ladder. We shifted focus to building dynamic career paths and placed “Reflection” at the core—linking skill mapping, learning, and planning into a cohesive bite-sized experience. Spotting the gaps left by sparse annual reviews, we also introduced continuous, engaging check-ins to spark meaningful growth conversations ultimately evolving from generic AI to hyper-personalised career paths, turning complexity into clarity and insight into action.
Where do you see yourself and the project in the next five years?
We see Uplyft as the catalyst for a culture shift—igniting a new era of continuous growth. As Agentic AI strengthens our backend, the next leap is to pilot autonomous career coaches, enabling users to receive even more intuitive, real-time guidance. With AI rapidly reshaping work and skill demands, adoption is set to accelerate. Over time, Uplyft will become the central talent intelligence layer—powering succession pipelines, talent marketplaces, and seamlessly integrating learning into everyday workflows. Gig projects will become routine, driving internal mobility and cross-functional agility to deliver a transformative ecosystem for self-led, future-ready career growth!
