Three questions to the project team
What was the particular challenge of the project from a UX point of view?
From a UX perspective, the project involved two key challenges. First, the experience consisted of both a physical board game and a companion mobile application. One of the main challenges was creating a seamless connection between the online and offline components, ensuring they functioned as a unified experience rather than two separate products. Users needed to move naturally between the physical and digital touchpoints while maintaining engagement and continuity throughout the gameplay journey. Second, understanding the rules of a new board game is often one of the most complex and frustrating stages for players. Therefore, a significant UX challenge was translating complex game mechanics into intuitive visual communication and animated guidance, enabling users to learn and understand the game in a more accessible and engaging way.
What was your personal highlight in the development process? Was there an aha!-moment, was there a low point?
One of the lowest points occurred at the beginning of the project. The concept originated from a series of critical observations and reflections, but I struggled to translate these abstract ideas into a playable game experience. Finding a way to embed the project’s core message into both the game mechanics and the interface design without making it feel forced was a significant challenge.
As a personal project, I was responsible for every stage of development, from research and concept creation to game design, UX design, and visual execution. This required strong time management skills and a holistic understanding of how different design disciplines work together, which became one of the most rewarding aspects of the process.
Where do you see yourself and the project in the next five years?
During my current internship, I have realized that visual design is only one part of a much larger product ecosystem. Working on real-world projects has exposed me to the collaboration between designers, developers, and other stakeholders, which has sparked my interest in front-end development and the role of independent creators who can bridge design and implementation.
As for the project, I see it as more than a conceptual exploration. In the future, I would like to further develop it into a fully playable product, combining physical gameplay and digital experiences in a more refined and complete way. Turning the concept into a real-world experience is both a challenge and an opportunity that I am excited to pursue.
