Office Humour is a piece of speculative design that imagines a future in which the data collected about users is used against them. Users interact with a literal ‘black box’ algorithm via laugh detection. The object classifies ambient noises into ‘laughter’ and ‘no laughter’ and prints the result in real-time. To enhance the interaction participants can make use of the canned laughter or a joke book to observe how the results may change.
