Unexpected Appearance / Disappearance of Patterns on Plastic
LOTTE Advanced Materials
This project focuses on new applications of materials and patterns, in order to easily identify shrinking volumes of liquids from a distance without the need for additional visual elements. By generating irregular reflections of light, curved transparent materials tend to cause visual distortion. Researchers at Lotte discovered a point at which the pattern of a curved material offsets the distortion level in contact with water. This discovery offers a solution to visually recognize the level of colorless liquids in transparent containers.
