Three questions to the project team
What was the particular challenge of the project from a UX point of view?
The central UX challenge was to make interaction with detailed 3D models as simple as possible, especially for users without prior experience with 3D tools. This was particularly demanding, as the platform needed to provide reliable usability on mid-sized touch screens, enabling confident use even in demanding shopfloor environments. Furthermore, the challenge was to consolidate previously distributed processes into a unified solution that supports users with different levels of experience in operating complex pharmaceutical machinery. Achieving the right balance between task-oriented workflows, quick access to relevant information, and a scalable architecture for future expansion was essential throughout the design process.
What was your personal highlight in the development process? Was there an aha!-moment, was there a low point?
The journey from the original vision to a truly usable product was both demanding and rewarding. The main risk was whether we could deliver high-performance, realistic 3D models that would enable intuitive and purposeful interaction on mobile devices. Through ongoing technical testing and regular usability evaluations, we were able to move steadily toward the solution. The gratifying result was a well-balanced compromise between performance and visual detail, which was clearly confirmed by positive user feedback. Also the platform concept has already proven its strength. New modules, which were not foreseeable at the start of the project, are currently in development and can be seamlessly integrated into the existing user interface.
Where do you see yourself and the project in the next five years?
In five years, OMNIA will be recognized as an intelligent, forward-thinking solution that actively supports users in their daily work. As the digital ecosystem for Bausch+Ströbel and its customers, OMNIA will provide machine operators, quality managers, and maintenance teams with proactive, data-driven assistance and tailored workflows. Thanks to intelligent information linking, thoughtful user guidance, and advanced predictive analytics, OMNIA will sustainably increase efficiency and reliability in the pharmaceutical industry while ensuring high medication quality. In doing so, OMNIA will set new standards in industrial usability and become the benchmark for smart service platforms in the industry.
